Share Your Voice: New Clinical Trial Survey on Active Monitoring for DCIS

Here is an important opportunity to have your voice and preferences heard!

The COMET Study team has asked for DCIS Understood’s help with outreach about a new potential clinical trial utilizing active monitoring for low-risk DCIS.

You can participate in this short survey even if your DCIS was high-grade. Your honest opinions are greatly appreciated!

Why This Matters:

Most women diagnosed with DCIS currently undergo surgery (often followed by radiation and/or medication). But research shows that many women with low-risk DCIS may never go on to develop invasive breast cancer.

Active monitoring is an alternative approach: women are followed closely with mammograms, and surgery is only recommended if there are concerning changes.

This new trial—led by researchers at Duke University and colleagues—wants to test whether additional strategies involving medication and/or lifestyle changes can make active monitoring even safer.

What the Trial Will Explore:

Researchers are asking:

  • Medication: Does taking a medication for 3–5 years lower the chance of later invasive breast cancer in women undergoing active monitoring for DCIS?
  • Lifestyle change: Does adding a particular vitamin or going on a specific diet lower the chance of later invasive breast cancer in women undergoing active monitoring for DCIS?

How You Can Help:

  • The survey is completely anonymous and takes only 5 minutes.
  • Please answer each question, even if you have already had breast surgery.
  • Your answers will be combined with input from many others to help shape the design of the study.
